Every year several of my students take the Young Writers National Novel Writing Month challenge, a youth edition of the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenge. NaNoWriMo is an annual event that takes place each November, and the goal is to write a 50,000-word novel.
If you're under 18, you can sign up for the Young Writers Program at ywp.nanowrimo.org. If you're a teacher, you can create an online classroom for student participants, and YWP will provide you with a code, so your students can enter your classroom.
If you are just now hearing about this, you can still sign up even though it’s November 3. It’s not that kind of competition, as you are competing only with yourself. Therefore, you can start late for whatever reason.
In 2022, I did a series of posts related to pre-writing lessons my students were completing as prep for their participation in the challenge. I’ll link them here:
This year, I plan to write a series of craft lessons during November that may help students looking for fictional moves that will open up new avenues of their plot.
Starting this week, I’ll post a couple of craft lessons dealing with fictional Time.
Let’s go, NaNoWriMo!
